I was kindly invited by the team at Sadlers Wells to attend a performance of The Snowman with my niece Angel aged 5yrs old and my nephew Jaxson (her brother) aged 8yrs old and I have to admit I was just as excited as they were ?

I haven’t seen this show before, but like most, I have read the book and seen the movie and sang the famous “Walking n the Air” song most christmases growing up – it’s a British christmas classic, thanks to both Raymond Briggs and Aled Jones ⛄ So, anticipation all round.

As soon as we walked into the auditorium we were blown away by the beauty of the stage, the curtains were closed but the fake snow lights floating over the lit up stage area was enough to intrigue even the most restless of children in the audience.

At first we are introduced to the main character and his parents with some really entertaining dance motifs, my particular favourite is the choreography with the little boy in his wellies.

The choreography is mixed with mime which assists with the storytelling.

Watching the snowman come to life and develop a friendship with the little boy is so heart-warming and the adventures they have are so much fun! There are jokes for all ages, including the adults, which I found to extra entertaining.

The show is paced at the perfectly for little ones, I was a bit worried about the kids getting bored, especially Angel who is only 5yrs old, but the scenes, lighting and story move on so quickly that there is no time to get restless and just 2 mins before Angel called me to ask when we could get Ice-cream, it was the end of the first half – perfect!

I suggest you get down with the little ones to see it before it closes on 6th January 2019 as it’s a real family treat also, the infamous “walking in the air” scene is absolutely breathtaking!
